9 Reasons to Start Your Own Business (& become a Female Entrepreneur)
Are you feeling uninspired by your career?
Are you fed up with corporate life?
Are you tired of working for someone else’s dreams - and someone else’s profit?
If you have a dream and you know you’re capable of more and want more for your life - It’s time to consider starting your own business.
I’m a life and mindset coach, I love working with career changers + entrepreneurs (there are a so many of us out there) and I know from doing this work that you ARE a master at something - you DO have the ability to get out of your corporate cubicle and take charge of your own life.
If you’re a woman who wants to take control of your career and achieve success on your own terms,
These are the reasons WHY you should start your own business and become a female entrepreneur:
1) AUTHENTICITY
Let's start with authenticity, because it's important to be your authentic self.
If you're someone who’s been told all her life to 'just fit in', if you find yourself hiding who you really are to fit into a box, trimming and adjusting yourself to fit a mold, or an ideal of who you think you need to be to be successful at work, it’s going to take a toll on you.
You shift and change yourself to please the corporate algorithm - which is constantly changing - so you can tick the right boxes on your yearly performance review and continue to get paid.
All of this suppresses who you really are, and how you want to show up.
If this sounds like you, starting a business is a great way to express your authentic self through your work.
2) CONTROL
You start a business to be in control of your own fate.
When you work for someone else it feels like security because you’re on the payroll. But security is never guaranteed - no matter how long you work somewhere, you will always be at the mercy of someone else’s business decisions. Effectively, you could walk into work any day and find yourself without a job.
There are no guarantees in business either, but if you prefer to be the one making the decisions? Having a business is the better choice.
3) FOCUS
You start a business because you want to focus on your own goals.
When you work for someone else, you’re spending all of your time, energy and attention on achieving someone else’s goals.
If you’re tired of working for someone else’s goals, starting a business will direct your time, energy and attention into achieving your own goals.
4) YOUR SCHEDULE
You choose to start a business because you want to create and be in charge of your own schedule.
When you work for someone else, you don’t get to decide your work schedule.
Despite the recent trend shifts towards 4 day work weeks and more allowances for working from home, many people are still feeling dissatisfied with their work life balance, especially because in our world, with modern day technology, we’re still plugged in 24/7.
If you feel like there’s no ‘you’ left at the end of the day to enjoy your life, if you feel like you’re stretched so thin for your job, you might want to consider starting your own business.
Having a business takes work, yes, but ultimately you get to decide how much work you do and you get to decide your schedule.
5) INCOME POTENTIAL
Having a business increases your income potential - ultimately, you get to determine your worth.
When you work for someone else, they decide how much they’re willing to pay you. Sure, you can negotiate a bit, but you’ll never be fully compensated for your value, or for your time or your energy.
If you want to break your income glass ceiling and give yourself the promotion you've always deserved, starting your own business is a way out of the corporate grind, where you can build your own empire, and open yourself up to unlimited income potential.
6) PERSONAL POTENTIAL
Having a business allows you to reach your personal potential. This is especially important for high-achieving women who are feeling burnt out on corporate life.
If you’re fed up with office politics, and feeling churned up by the corporate grind - your potential may have been used against you by others who feel threatened by it. It’s disempowering to see other people succeed and get promoted all around you, despite your skills, knowledge, experience, and credentials, and despite working harder, longer, and smarter.
Listen, if this sounds like you, take that potential and put it to work for you.
Leave your disempowering job in the dust and start and create a business and a life of your own design.
AND don't look back!
7) IMPACT
The next reason to start a business is to make an impact - we all have the ability to make a positive impact on the world.
This may seem like a monumental task to figure out: What are you passionate about? What do you want to build your business around? What impact do you want to make?
This can sound like a scary word, but it doesn't have to be. Remember - anything you do in business that helps someone else, makes an IMPACT.
Don’t underestimate yourself or your business for the potential contribution it can make in the world.
8) YOU CAN DO IT BETTER
This is one of my favourite reasons to start a business: because you believe and you know that you can do it better.
If you’re someone who:
Feels frustrated by how the people you work for are running their business (and wonder what it would be like if you were in charge)
Has lots of ideas for how things could be improved or changed
Has a big vision and feels constricted by the role you’re in now
You might be better off having your own business.
The world needs more people who challenge how things are done, who think differently, who think bigger.
So if you’re feeling called to do it better - listen to that calling, don’t be afraid to get out there and give it a try.
9) FREEDOM
Of all the reasons to start a business, it all boils down to this: freedom
Time freedom. Financial freedom. Freedom of choice.
It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you believe in yourself and your abilities.
It’s time to take charge of your career and business, to step out and be bold and courageous, and to make your mark on the world - on your own terms.
Shift your mindset towards creating that business that will ultimately help you create the freedom you crave.
YOU DON’T NEED PERMISSION
A very important message I want to leave you with is this: you don’t need permission.
You don’t need anyone else’s permission or approval to go out and start a business and create a life that you love
Do it for any reason that feels true to you
Do it for you
Do it because you want to
Do it because you want to be your own boss
Consider this - we have the ability to determine our destiny. With hard work, determination, and a little bit of courage, anything is possible. Make a decision to take control of your future and build success on your own terms - not someone else's.
These are some of the many reasons to start your own business and become a female entrepreneur.
If you're fed up with your corporate life, fed up with your career, if you feel like you have potential to do greater things in the world, and if any of these reasons speak to you, it might be time for you to consider starting your own business.
Remember - if you’re willing to take that risk, the potential rewards could be exponential.
